This is a piece that makes me thankful for the life I live and helps to remind me to stay humble and realize my mortality. This epic peak is from a pretty treacherous hike on O‘ahu called the Olomana Ridge hike. Two days after I shot this another hiker fell to his death trying to reach this summit. The climb is extremely narrow and the weather up there can get pretty wet, making the rocky terrain very slippery. When I got back to Maui from this trip I found there were many more deaths attributed to this peak as well. A local firefighter from O‘ahu died while trying to make the ascent a couple years back, and plenty of others lost their lives here too.
While the title is a little ominous, it kept coming back to me, and while it may sound a little morbid, I hope that it will remind others of how dangerous this location can be. If you are going to go out and tempt this ridge, know what you’re in for and the potential consequences. Think about your family and loved ones. Personally, I won’t be hiking this again. I’d rather spend the money to have this awesome piece printed and hanging on my wall! You should too! hahaha.
